5 Top Don'ts When Addressing Your Wedding Invitation Envelopes

Over the years I've found that sometimes knowing what not to do can be as important as knowing what to do.  I've put together a list of the big no-nos for addressing your wedding invitation envelopes. These are the most common mistakes made. Make sure you know these "don'ts" and you'll be smiling with confidence as you drop those much anticipated and properly addressed wedding invitations in the mail.

NO NO #1. Don't use mailing labels on your wedding invitation envelopes.

The wedding invitation envelope is an introduction to your wedding invitation. You've paid for beautiful distinct wedding invitations. Why would you put cheap labels on the envelopes? Trust me, it will get noticed. A definite no-n0.

NO NO #2. Don't abbreviate streets, cities or states.

Ettiquette dictates tht you never abbreviate on the wedding invitation envelope. The exception to this is Mr., Mrs. and Ms. Everything else is spelled out, such as Street and Doctor.

NO NO #3. Don't write first names or addresses on the inner envelopes.

Your guests full names and addresses are written only on the outer envelope. Only titles and last names are written on the inner envelope.

NO NO #4. Don't list children under the age of 18 on the outer envelope.

The appropriate place to list the name of any children in the household under the age of 18 is on the inner envelope only and under their parents names.

NO NO #5. Don't include a person over the age of 18 on their parent's invitation.

If a guest is over the age of 18 they should receive their own separate invitation regardless of whether they are living with their parents.

this was a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a lot and never seem to get something done.
